*spoiler alert
This illustrates the death of Mary, Queen of Scots. From what I have read, it took 3 times to execute. In this series, it has 2 blows.
I wanted to illustrate the clip of the Queen's reaction to Mary's death on this blog because it's so natural and astonishing. Unfortunately, I was unable to find the clip on YouTube. I have a YouTube site of the movie, check the whole movie out.
In one of my earlier blogs, I explained that once the court found her cousin guilty, the Queen would still not sign the death warrant. Finally, after convincing by her counsel, she does. However, once she signs it, she advises the messenger to not deliver her signed warrant to the counsel until he is instructed. The messenger, obviously confused, still delivers the signed warrant by Elizabeth to the counsel and explains what she told him. Still, after hearing what the Queen advised the messenger, the Counsel still had Mary, Queen of Scots executed. After all, they did have Elizabeth's signature. In my opinion, the Queen wanted there her counsel's blood on Mary's murder, and not herself alone.
The execution of Mary, Queen of Scots caused Spain to invade England. Spain, as well as the Pope, did not want a Protestant ruling England. The closest heir to Elizabeth was Mary, who was a true believer of the Catholic faith. Spain and Rome would take all measures to make sure Elizabeth was overthrown and to have Mary, Queen of Scots the new Queen.
However, this did not not happen. I have illustrated in the earlier blogs, Queen Elizabeth's Speech at Tilbury. At this point, Spain was invading England with over 100 ships and was to land at Tilbury. There was no battle at Tilbury because the English ships defeated Spain, also known as the Spanish Armada.
Series 1 ends with the defeat of the Armada and the death of Leicester. Here is the final scene in series 1:

The next blog will continue with Series 2 of Elizabeth 1.
